| IDE |
| |
| (Intelligent
Drive Electronics) The IDE interface controls the systems
drives, including the floppy drive, hard drive, and CD-ROM drive.
Most computer systems come with two standard IDE controllers
each allowing control of two devices via a daisy-chained Ribbon
cable, and a floppy IDE controller accepting a smaller cable
and meant to control a Floppy disk drive. |

| ISA |
| |
|
Used to allow for the addition of expansion
cards in the computer system, the ISA bus was created by IBM
in the mid-eighties and was the industry standard till the
mid-nineties.It has since been replaced by the cheaper and
faster PCI bus, but because of the prevalence of existing
ISA cards many motherboard manufacturers still include an
ISA slot in their motherboards.
