IDE
 
(Intelligent Drive Electronics) The IDE interface controls the systems drives, including the floppy drive, hard drive, and CD-ROM drive. Most computer systems come with two standard IDE controllers each allowing control of two devices via a daisy-chained Ribbon cable, and a floppy IDE controller accepting a smaller cable and meant to control a Floppy disk drive.

ISA
 

Used to allow for the addition of expansion cards in the computer system, the ISA bus was created by IBM in the mid-eighties and was the industry standard till the mid-nineties.It has since been replaced by the cheaper and faster PCI bus, but because of the prevalence of existing ISA cards many motherboard manufacturers still include an ISA slot in their motherboards.
